I close my eyes & open my mind
The wall is up & the world cannot come in
I begin in the darkness
Building body & mind
For spirit is always here
This plateau is born of my dreams
Not only is there light needed
I am the light itself
I reach out to calm my beating heart
My breathing slows
The ringing of the bells
Begins & ends with an Om

I dream & believe
I journey through memories
Though quite lonely
I am not quite alone
Whispers here & echoes there
My thoughts unwind
A creation of befuddled stairs
A double helix, in fact
The building blocks of life
Cast my gaze upon a phoenix & a rose
I breathe deeply of mysterious air
Calm and deep and free I think
After all, only I am here

Then I hear the unspoken words
and feel the billowing of the wind
It is the Great I AM
A melody of memories
& the symphony of the stars
He offers the simplest of advice
"Quit building dams," he says
"and let the waters flow."
"It's not about what dream you're having
It's about the revelations when it ends,"

Still I sit and wait, and watch
Though my eyes are closed to Earthly things
At times I find that I have seen more
Than I ever care to know

My senses expand beyond me
and, I let the walls crumble down
I hear the birds and pat the Earth
I thank her for her time
For if I am dust, I think I shall be clever dust
Far better than pitiful sand.

I dove deep
Straight into the heart
If such a thing might be called a heart
I went looking for answers
Yet I find myself drowning in the questions
I need to find something
Something humanity lost long ago
Maybe they disliked the constant challenge
Maybe saving the world is just too much work for any one species
No, it’s here, always has been, right from the beginning
I see that spark that glimmer of hope
It didn’t die; it was just discarded, for all the trouble it caused
Turns out most of the people were happy to see it go
It was different, unruly an unknown variable
So of course it had to go, no place for it here
The United States Government won the game of Monopoly
It was the citizens who lost
But we’re still here
& amongst us?
An unknown variable
A random ideation
One match
to set the whole world on fire
